The Effective January 1, 2019, all NHI active insured members ages 18 and older are eligible for one preventive health care exam a year. For example, based on a person's age and gender, they now have access "at no cost" to preventive healthcare services. Preventive care means taking good care of yourself by participating in routine health check ups and screening for common ailments. Seeing a doctor or primary physician on a regular basis can help detect potential health problems/risks that you might no know you have. The following charts are detailed list of standard screening exams covered under the National Health Insurance.
Maximum NHI coverage for Preventive Health care is $500 USD. Additional test that is not required under the standard list of screening for a particular age group may be purchased as add-on and paid for out of pocket by the requesting member. The coverage by age group is shown below:
The National Health Insurance does not cover for airfare/travel expenses, hotel accomodation and other related expenses.
Anyone interested in preventive health care services at an approved provider off-island may call the Healthcare Fund Office for more information. Healthcare Fund will need the following information to book executive exam. The program requires ten (10) working days to work with approved providers for confirmation of appointment dates. Appointment dates are not guaranteed and is based on the availability of providers to accomodate number of exams per month.
